School Recorders

At Crescendo Music you will find a range of Yamaha and Aulos plastic student descant recorders for beginners, and wooden recorders for more advanced players.

For a child learning the recorder at school, a good quality plastic soprano descant recorder is required.  Yamaha student descant recorders are available in fun colours or in plain cream. This is our most popular student recorder. Teachers like this 3 piece recorder as it plays consistently in tune and has a good tone.

The recorder has 7 finger holes in the front and 1 thumb hole at the back. Different sounds are produced on the recorder by blowing air into the mouthpiece and placing the fngers over the holes in different orders. Each sound has a particular fingering pattern. When you learn to play the recorder, you will learn note lengths and basic notation.

Recorder Care

A good quality plastic recorder is easier to keep clean than a wooden instrument. Regular washing with warm soapy water followed by a thorough rinsing will keep the recorder hygienic. Plastic recorders should be wiped through after playing with a recorder mop or pull through. Recorder mops are available to buy at Crescendo Music.
